Chris in 2018

I’m now in a stranger’s house, who found me lying next to the road next to the famous abandoned bus 30 minutes ago. Obviously when I fainted, a new road was built next to the bus and during the construction, no one just happened to walk in the rotten bus and find a half-dead young man lying in there. I woke up and managed to crawl out of the bus, and fainted again, while this white-bearded old man saw me and took me to his hut right down the road. He gave me some fancy canned food which are pretty delicious, I’m surprised I’ve never heard of them before. I told him not to call the local police and I’m fine. Now he’s making some coffee in the kitchen. This is a really plain hut with few decorations, except for a huge bookshelf filled with books standing next to the wall. I walk near and start to examine the books. A lot of them I haven’t heard of before. I casually grabbed one called Into the WIld just because of the name, and I see my name on the front page. “I figured you’re a big fan of that book aren’t ya?” the old man walks out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee steaming, “Trying to live in that bus like him? Good thing you didn’t kill yourself like he did, you’re welcome.” He hands me a cup of coffee, as I shouted out, “I am Christopher McCandless!” “Don’t be an idiot, he’s dead decades ago,”he takes a sip of his coffee, “and no matter how much you like him, you’re not becoming him.” “Sir, do you know what year is it now?” “2018, god time flies doesn’t it?” He answers, as I collapse into the couch behind me with shockness. This must be some kind of joke, so I ask again, “Excuse me, I mean now, what year is it now, sir?” “2018, I told ya, haven’t seen a hitchhiker around here for years, with all those new roads built, you guys aren’t having fun around here anymore are you?” I drink my coffee, and walked out of the hut. The cars on the road look a lot nicer, and a lot quieter also. I walk back into the hut, and ask the old man who’s cleaning the bookshelf, “Do you mind if I stay for while longer?” “Yea, sure, as long as you want, it’s good to have someone to talk to.” I sit down in the couch and take Into the Wild, “Let me read about myself first, please.”
