Never Let Me Go and Me and Earl and the dying Girl
The stories of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Never Let Me Go are completely different but the theme is the same it seems. While Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a full-on romantic story about a girl dying from cancer but wanting to live out her days with a long lost friend, Never Let Me Go is a love triangle about people just finding each other while two are on the brink of death and Kathy has the ability to care for them until their final breathe.
I find the connections to be hidden behind the long chapters of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl but right on top of the pages of Never Let Me Go.
In Never Let Me Go, Kathy and Tommy finally are able to be together yet Tommy is dying and already on his third donation. This does not leave them a lot of time to finally be together after having to hide their feeling for years because of Kathy’s frenemy Ruth who, at the time, was dating Tommy. Ruth was dying and she did not want to die in guilt so she confessed her feelings toward her friends. He explained that she believes Tommy and Kathy should be together and is sorry for holding out for so long to tell them.
Tommy and Kathy finally start dating and living their lives faster since they hope to reconnect with each other since they are limited on days alive. It is almost a love story thrown away but Tommy and Kathy are both finally happy with each other. It seems as if Tommy and Kathy are better than they ever were since they are together which ties us into Me and Earl and the Dying Girl .
This is a story of a girl who has cancer and a boy she used to date feels bad and starts hanging out with her. It starts as a depressing story but soon they start accomplishing things they never would have done without each other. They are better versions of each other when they start dating and hanging out. I see the comparison since one person in the relationship is dying and both couples are trying their best to past time and make things seem happy and spend time together.
At the end both dying humans pass away and yet the other two people in the relationship want to live for them, making them be better people than they would have ever thought.
